The mission of Neighborhood Housing Services of San Antonio (NHSSA) is "Building Successful Families and Communities Through Housing Opportunities."

 

NHSSA has developed and constructed more than 325 new homes, rehabbed 200 existing homes, and closed more than 1,400 loans, totaling more than $30 million. Additionally, we prepare our clients to be financially sound and excel as homeowners, by annually serving 300+ clients with counseling services through our Home Ownership Center.

As a HUD-certified Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) and a US Treasury-certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), NHS develops new units and rehabs existing homes to open and preserve access to quality affordable housing options for local low and moderate-income families. To ensure our clients are in a position to financially succeed as homeowners, we provide them access to a variety of low- cost down payment assistance and mortgage loan products. Critically, as a HUD-certified Housing Counseling Agency, we can also provide those same families with comprehensive housing counseling services including credit repair, credit-building, foreclosure prevention/mitigation and financial capability coaching.

 

NHSSA is a private non-profit corporation organized under state laws, and has an IRS 501 c (3) designation. The corporation is a locally controlled organization with special lending and affordable housing development as its main focus.  NHSSA opened its Home Ownership Center in 1999.  With public-private partnerships comprised of neighborhood residents, area business leaders, and government representatives, NHSSA serves as a catalyst to enhance both quality affordable housing units and tangible homeownership opportunities for low-to moderate-income families.
